Alan has always been a competitive athlete in endurance sports such as Cycling, Triathlons, Running and Racquetball. He competed in dozens of Triathlons in the 1990s, from sprint to IronMan distances, almost always placing in his age group. But his true passion over the years has been, and still is Cycling...specifically time trialing. The race of truth. A race where it's just you against the clock. In 2009, Alan set a time trial course record, averaging over 28 mph.
In the same year his aerobic capacity was scientifically quantified at Barry University in a laboratory V02 Max test. VO2 Max (maximal oxygen uptake) is an important factor that can determine an athlete's capacity to perform sustained exercise, and is considered the best indicator of an athlete's cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance.
Doctor Nauris Tamulevicious, who ran the test, said AIan's V02 Max was the highest ever recorded in his sports performance laboratory on a bicycle at any age. 64.8 ml/kg/min, 4.30 L/min, METS: 18.5, 1500 kgm/min. Simply off the charts!
"Cycling is my passion, a way of life for me. I train very hard on the bike, commuting 30 miles to work in each direction, plus more training miles on the way home plus intervals. Needless to say, I'm pretty exhausted when l walk through the door. So I like to blend up a nutritious Action Whey Protein shake with blueberries, strawberries, reverse osmosis water and ice. It's important I get it into my system as quickly as possible, inside that 30 minute post workout window when my muscles can absorb it most efficiently.
Since starting on Action Whey I notice that I hardly get sore any more. And when I do it doesn't last as long and I recover quicker so I can hit my next workout hard. My body seems to crave it.
I believe that exercise is the 'Fountain of Youth' and those that have found it live a longer, healthier, more satisfying life and have far fewer health problems. Going hand-in-hand with exercise is good nutrition. I have had the opportunity to work with some of the top doctors and formulators in the field of sports nutrition testing new products and establishing dosage and protocols. I am still fascinated at the adaptations my body can make through aerobic and anaerobic training, proper nutrition, and deep restorative sleep - even at the age of 47. As I get older I just train smarter and I'm still winning races and setting personal records."
