Bring Out Your Child's Brilliance with One Special Ingredient

Nutrition is key to making sure your child starts off the day right, and is in top physical and mental condition to grow and learn.

We live in the information age. Whether a home student, a hard-working professional or a stay-at-home mom, we're all constantly called upon to think, solve problems, make decisions and think through complex issues.

Here's a secret weapon to help increase brain power and enhance memory function: Action Whey™ with BioCysteine3®!

Action Whey™ is in a class of its own for brain fuel since it is a food. One of the best ways to ensure mental alertness for you and your child throughout the morning is to start your day with a serving of Action Whey™.

Two recent studies show that whey protein can have very beneficial effects on brain power.

In the first study, researchers examined whether alpha-lactalbumin would increase plasma tryptophan levels as well as reduce depression and cortisol levels in subjects under acute stress considered to be vulnerable to stress. (Note: Alpha-lactalbumin is a major sub fraction found in whey, which has an especially high tryptophan content.)

Increased brain serotonin levels enable people to better cope with stress, whereas a decline in serotonin activity is associated with depression and anxiety. Elevated levels of serotonin in the body often result in the relief of depression, as well as a substantial reduction in pain sensitivity, anxiety and stress.

The study found the ratio of plasma tryptophan to the other amino acids tested was 48% higher in subjects on the alpha-lactalbumin diet than in those given casein, another milk based protein. This was accompanied by a decrease in cortisol levels and higher prolactin concentration. The researchers concluded that the "Consumption of a dietary protein enriched in tryptophan improved coping ability in stress-vulnerable subjects, most likely through alterations in brain serotonin."

Whey Protein Improves Memory

Recently, the same group of researchers sought to find out if whey protein could improve cognitive performance under stress. Cognitive performance declines under chronic stress and it is theorized that the effect of chronic stress on performance may be partially due to reduced brain serotonin levels.

As the previous study found, whey protein increased serotonin levels by dramatically increasing tryptophan levels. Tryptophan is an amino acid that is the direct precursor to serotonin. The study looked at 23 "high stress-vulnerable" and 29 "low stress-vulnerable" subjects using a double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover design. After each group was given either whey or casein (used as control), all the subjects were given a memory-scanning task and blood samples were taken to measure the effect of dietary whey or casein on plasma levels of tryptophan vs. other large neutral amino acids (the Trp-LNAA ratio). The plasma Trp-LNAA ratio is considered to be an indirect indication of increased brain serotonin levels.

Similar to the other study, they found a significantly greater increase in the plasma trp-LNAA ratio after consumption of whey rather than after casein. Most interesting was a significant improvement in memory test performance observed in the stress-vulnerable subjects.

These findings show that those prone to stress may benefit greatly from the use of whey and other nutrients known to raise serotonin levels.

It's important to note that levels of alpha-lactalbumin and other important subfractions can vary greatly and depend on how the whey protein is processed. Many whey products on the market contain very little Alpha-lactalbumin and other active subfractions because they have been highly damaged.

Action Whey™, carefully sourced from raw, grass-fed cows’ milk, is a superior source for high levels of biologically-active Alpha-lactalbumin.

Many people who drink Action Whey™ have reported that they simply feel better overall. These studies may very well explain such reports.

Because Action Whey™ has so many other known benefits it should be a staple food supplement in anyone's health and wellness regimen.
